REINA 50-TON HYDRAULIC PRESS

If you’ve been looking for a large press for your school or studio, this is it! This heavy duty press has been carefully designed from top to bottom specifically for the hand papermaker. It is not an adaptation of a commercial H frame press. Specially designed features on this handmade press make the papermaker’s task much easier.

The electric hydraulic pump eliminates tedious hand pumping-just hold the switch and the bottom platen automatically raises. It comes with a pressure gauge for greater control. Quality Norco/Enerpac hydraulics are used. The bottom platen is a comfortable 26 1/2” from the ground. Press features a worm drive winch to easily raise and lower the top platen, so that the ‘daylight’ can be adjusted for varying paper post heights. 6 inch casters are included. The Reina press is available in 2 sizes. The big press has platen sizes of 34” x 26” and the bigger one has 40” x 36” platens.

Rolling cart with stainless steel couching/drain tray
This great option eliminates the need for lifting a heavy post. You can build your post anywhere in your studio. The tray is positioned at a convenient work height of 27 inches. After completing the post, roll the cart over and clip it to the press. The stainless steel couching tray will roll off the cart and into the press. The hole in the tray allows you to collect the water that gushes out from the 50 tons of pressure, and keeps your studio floor dry.

HOLLANDER BEATERS

In the 17th century, a new mechanical device for beating pulp was invented in Holland, and ever since has been called a "Hollander beater". Although a tremendous amount of papermaking can be accomplished with the aid of a kitchen blender or other form of hydro-pulper, a Hollander beater is capable of developing special properties of bonding, strength, density, translucency and color intensity in pulp and paper.

We recommend the Reina beater, which is rugged, dependable, and highly suitable for a professional hand papermaking studio. We have been using one in our studio for years, and find it ideal. It features a traditional Hollander design, with an adjustable roll operated by a hand crank, for precision beating. The beater is easy to clean and maintain.

2-lb Reina Beater

Its capacity is 2 pounds of dry fiber or pulp, with 14 gallons of water. It comes assembled, with its own stand of heavy gauge stainless steel. Stainless steel is used for the tub, bedplate, shaft, cover and beater bars. The bars are set into a bronze roll. Motor is 1 h.p.

Two options are available and highly recommended:
1. Casters: It's nice to have heavy equipment on rollers! Casters can be locked so machine can't roll. $195.00
2. Digital Height Indicator: The indicator shows the precise space adjustment between the roll and the bedplate; this unique feature of the Reina beater ensures duplication of beating $240.00.

2-lb. Reina Beater: $9,100.

Casters: $195.

Crating: $245.

Digital Height Indicator: $240.

7-lb. Reina Beater

This beater was originally designed and built by us specifically for the laboratory of a major paper company. The 7-lb. beater is now used in major papermaking facilities throughout the world. For the papermaking studio or school that must produce a lot of pulp, this is a remarkable machine. One can easily beat 7-lbs. of dry pulp in this beater. Its powerful motor and mechanics are such that pulps and fibers beat twice as fast with this beater than with the 2-lb. beater. Stainless steel is used for the tub, bedplate, shaft, cover and bars. The bars are set into a bronze roll. Tub capacity is approximately 50 gallons. Motor is 5 h.p. Includes a magnetic starter and the digital height indicator.

7-lb. Reina Beater $35,300.

Its design is similar to our 7-lb. machine pictured above but features a larger beater roll, greater capacity tub (approx. 70 gallons of water), and a 7 1/2 hp motor. The digital height indicator and magnetic starter are included.

VACUUM TABLE

4' x 6' Vacuum Table

We now offer a vacuum table of excellent quality that is easy to use. This is an important addition for any serious studio making paper art. It efficiently and evenly removes the water from any low relief paper work, as large as 4 feet by six feet. It’s even great for making really large, thick sheets, forgoing the need for a hydraulic press. It is ideal for pulp painting where multiple pressings may be needed, and one never has to move the possibly delicate project until the piece has been vacuum pressed.

To use, simply pour or couch your wet sheets/artwork. When you are ready to vacuum, cover the table with plastic sheeting to create a seal, turn on the pump and watch the magic! All the water literally gets sucked into the 5-gallon collecting tank.

The 4 foot by 6 foot table has a polyethylene surface attached to a heavy duty painted steel frame, and is on wheels. The working height is 28”, and it comes with a powerful 1 hp vacuum pump with a pressure gauge so that you’ll always know when you’re getting maximum pressure. It includes a vacuum diffusing screen for the top surface. A plaque with directions for use are attached to the front of the table. Other sizes may be ordered.

Vacuum Table: $5,800. Crating: $275.
